Leonard Auction, Inc. began offering personal property appraisal services in 2007. The division was spun off as Leonard Appraisal, LLC in July 2022 and as a wholly owned subsidiary of The Leonard Company.
On August 1, 2022, Leonard Appraisal acquired DMP Appraisers and is proud to continue the appraisal practice of Scott Palmer, ISA AM.
Leonard appraisers are professionally trained and accredited, bringing the highest level of accuracy and expediency to client projects. With 60 collective years of experience, Leonard Appraisal delivers the utmost degree of integrity across all USPAP compliant and qualified appraisals.

John Leonard, ISA AM
John has been appraising personal property since 2007, working closely with attorneys, trust officers, guardians, and private clients to provide certified appraisal reports. He founded Leonard Auction in 2006 and expanded into personal property appraisals in 2007. In 2022, Leonard Appraisal, was spun off as a standalone, independent entity. He currently performs or oversees more than 100 appraisal projects per year in addition to running the largest Chicago area auction house dedicated to working with estates.
John holds a BA from Purdue University with a concentration in Political Science and secondary focus in Computer Science. He is a member of the International Society of Appraisers (ISA) with the accredited member designation, National Auctioneers Association (NAA), Illinois State Auctioneers Association (ISAA), American Numismatic Association (ANA) and Vistage International. He is current with USPAP through 2025.
Alexandra "Lex" Huckabay
Lex has been appraising personal property since 2013, working closely with lawyers, bank officers, guardians, and private clients to provide certified appraisal reports. Prior to joining The Leonard Company in 2019, she held positions with Everything But the House (EBTH) and MIR Appraisal Services. She currently performs or oversees more than 100 appraisal projects per year.
Lex holds an AB from Brown University with a double concentration in Classic and Visual Art. She is a member of the Appraisers Association of America (AAA) with the accredited member designation. She is current with USPAP through 2025.
Patrick Kearney, ISA
Patrick has been appraising personal property since 2007, working closely with lawyers, bank officers, wealth managers, and corporate clients to provide certified appraisal reports. Prior to joining The Leonard Company in 2022, he held a position with Susanin’s Auctioneers & Appraisers since 2003. He currently performs or oversees more than 50 appraisal projects per year.
Patrick holds a BA from Fairfield University with a concentration in Art History and a secondary focus in History and Irish Studies. He also holds a MAAB from the Sotheby’s Institute, London. He is a member of the International Society of Appraisers (ISA) and the Greater North Shore Estate & Financial Planning Council.
Laura Duguid, ISA AM
Laura has been appraising personal property since 2019, working closely with attorneys, trust officers, wealth managers, and private clients to provide certified appraisal reports. Prior to joining The Leonard Company in 2019, she held a management position with a New Uses Resale franchise. She currently performs or oversees more than 25 appraisal projects per year.
Laura holds a BA from the University of Iowa with a concentration in communications and journalism. She is a member of the International Society of Appraisers (ISA) with the accredited member designation and Downtown Madison Incorporated. She is current with USPAP through 2025.
Carrie Young, ISA
Carrie has been appraising personal property since 2014, working closely with lawyers, bank officers, wealth managers, and corporate clients to provide certified appraisal reports. Prior to joining The Leonard Company in 2022, she held a position with Susanin’s Auctioneers & Appraisers since 2013. She currently performs or oversees more than 50 appraisal projects per year in addition to managing the daily operations of the largest Chicago area auction house dedicated to working with estates.
Carrie holds a BS from the University of Houston-Downtown with a concentration in Interdisciplinary Studies and an MLA from the University of St. Thomas. She is a member of the International Society of Appraisers (ISA), Vistage International and the DuPage Estate Planning Council.
